Resting Place by Keomi Parker

Life is a dream,
Closing your eyes to see your Imagination,
Roaming freely is the only way you’re going to succeed in life;
The Government is trying to put you out.
Opening yours eyes is a nightmare;
A sin,
Racism,
Violence;
The blood of God’s children seeping into the Earth’s core,
Burning the hearts of our loved ones,
I shouldn’t be scared to open my eyes.
I shouldn’t be scared to leave my house because my culture;
My skin color offends you,
And the only thing that comes to your mind is a silver bullet,
Last time I checked, I do not have grayish wool type hair all over my body,
Eyes made of the Devil’s blood,
Irritating the nerves that flow through my spine.
Turning on the T.V., and seeing someone getting murdered;
Paying over millions of dollars to help other countries have peace,
And my people are dying fighting for peace and freedom,
I’m not going to stop fighting until I have that.
I’m damn sure going to open my eyes to see the brothers and sisters that landed on Plymouth Rock with out a fight.
