The Alexandria City Titans faced the South Lakes Seahawks in a home-game thriller that ended with the Titans defeating the Seahawks 15-13 on September 1.

“We have had a lot of opportunities to practice these kinds of scenarios— one of these being how to respond to a big play,” said Head Varsity Coach Rodney Hughey.

The game started with no scoring in the first quarter, but that changed in the second quarter when Titan kicker and punter Judah Bawcombe kicked two field goals for the team. Bawcombe’s kicks were followed up in the 3rd quarter by a touchdown from the Seahawks.

In the fourth quarter, Titan runningback Kenneth Jarvis scored a touchdown with a five-yard run, and Bawcombe scored another field goal. The Seahawks only scored a touchdown, leaving the Titans winning the game 15-13.

“Not allowing us to feel too good and making sure we’re keeping everything in the proper perspective will help us in our upcoming games,” said Coach Hughey.

When looking back on the MVPs of the game, Coach Hughey said, “The most valuable unit is the offensive line because the O-line is the unit without a stat, so they don’t get the credit they deserve when it comes to this game.”

As stated by Coach Hughey, the highlight of the game was the last field goal at the end of the game leading to a win for the Titans. From 32 yards away, Bawcombe kicked the winning field goal. This game-ending field goal took the score from 12 to 15 for the Titans, allowing the Titans to win even with the Seahawks’ next touchdown.

The Titans are now on a 2-0 win streak after their wins against the South Lakes Seahawks and the Annandale Atoms. This is undoubtedly a great start to their 2022-2023 football season.
