Many members of the indoor track team are zooming into qualifications for states this season! Seniors Daniel Franklin, Isaiah Kargo-Owens, Eli Wilson and Hassan Kamara placed first place in their relay heat during the Liberty Premier Invitational Track Meet on January 7. Their exceptional times automatically qualified them for states, surpassing the need to go to districts or regionals.

The team arrived in Lynchburg, Virginia last Friday night to attend the meet, which showcased 160 top-tier schools across the East Coast.

In the 4×200 relay, the group achieved a personal record of 1:33:61. “It’s a great feeling to be the first four guys to go to states in four years,” Wilson said.

Franklin says that the relay team has a tradition for luck that they perform before races.

“Before the meet, our ritual was getting sturdy [dancing] in the hotel room to ‘Just Wanna Rock’ [by Lil Uzi Vert],” Franklin said.

As one of the best teams in the region, the Titans proved their worth. With nine members from the boys’ team and four members from the girls´ team surpassing qualified times for districts, the team as a whole succeeded.

Members of the team are preparing for districts in early February.
