Summer School Registration for High School Students Starts Today

As we head into the last few weeks of school, we want to remind you of the many opportunities for our high school students to keep the learning alive this summer. High school students who need to make up credits or want to get ahead can use the summer to do so.

In-Person/On-Campus Offerings

On-campus Summer School runs from July 9-August 3. The morning session runs from 7:25 a.m.-10:40 a.m. and the afternoon session runs from 11 a.m.-2:15 p.m. All sessions will be held at the Minnie Howard campus. Transportation and meals will be provided for registered students.

Students are expected to be present for all classes. Three tardies equal one absence. Three absences disqualify students from earning credit. Refunds will not be provided. Please be sure to check schedules and coordinate plans in advance to avoid being tardy or absent.

Online Offerings

Online courses run from the time a student completes the registration process and gains access to the course until August 1. All coursework must be completed by August 1, no exceptions. This is a firm end date to allow online teachers 48 hours to grade student work to ensure grades are submitted on time.

Students can take half or full one-credit courses over the summer in the four core subject areas (English, math, science and social studies), along with health/physical education, select world languages and select general electives.

Students taking online courses are required to participate in one of four after-school orientation sessions on the King Street campus on June 6, June 12, June 19 and June 26.

Online courses involve a time commitment of 3-4 hours a day. Be sure that you can attend an orientation session and make the time commitment before registering.

AP Boot Camp

We are pleased to offer the AP Summer Boot Camp again this year. This two-week program is designed for students who are taking an Advanced Placement (AP) course for the first time. Students will engage in experiences designed to encourage teamwork, communication, organization, critical reading, writing and problem-solving skills needed to successfully complete a year in an advanced placement course.

Students attend one boot camp session out of four offered.

Session 1, July 10–21: 7:25-10:40 a.m. or 11 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

Session 2, July 24–Aug. 4: 7:25-10:40 a.m. or 11 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
