Announcing the New Leadership Team at T.C. Williams

ACPS announced in the spring that T.C. Williams High School is undergoing a reorganization of the administrative structure that will impact both the King Street and Minnie Howard campuses in the new school year.

ACPS has spent the past few months finding the best people to fill these leadership roles. We are now ready to announce the new leadership line-up.

The new structure creates a solid network of support that:

  • Better integrates teaching, learning and student support services
  • Improves the ratio of administrator to students, enhancing the ability of administrators to effectively monitor student performance
  • Balances the caseloads of counselors, enabling them to provide support to a lower number of students at each grade level
  • Enhances instructional oversight of each department and instruction

The Administrative Structure

Minnie Howard Campus
The new structure puts a permanent administrative and counseling team in place at Minnie Howard to guide and support students and their families through this critical ninth-grade transition year.

King Street Campus Academies
At the King Street campus, students in grades 10 through 12 will be part of six smaller learning communities, called Academies, with each one supporting an equal number of tenth- eleventh- and twelfth-grade students who will remain with their administrator and counselor until graduation. The Academy to which a student is assigned will not impact how students are organized into classes. Students will be in classes with students from different Academies.

International Academy
Also at the King Street campus, students who are identified as English Learners and have immigrated to the U.S. within the past three years will be supported through the International Academy. This academy has a team of administrators, support team members and teachers who are trained specifically to support the unique needs of this population.

Schedules and Academy Assignments

Students will receive their schedules with Academy assignments in the mail in mid-August. As previously mentioned, the Academy to which a student is assigned will not impact how students are organized into classes. Students will be in classes with students from different Academies.
