Board Matters: Board Leadership for 2020, Communications Audit, MacArthur and High School Project Updates

As the first meeting in the new year, this was the meeting where the Board was required to vote on their leadership for 2020. The Board also heard from the communications auditor and received updates on both the panel of experts for the High School Project and the new build for Douglas MacArthur Elementary School.

If you didn’t watch the January 9 meeting live, you can watch online anytime from the comfort of your sofa, and take your time to view the presentations and memos. Don’t forget that you can also watch all Board meetings live on ACPS-TV, local cable channel 71 and ACPS-TV online. You can also watch all meetings recorded online.

Board Leadership Organizational Meeting

The School Board unanimously voted Cindy Anderson as the Board Chair for a second year running in 2020. They also voted Veronica Nolan to continue as Vice Chair of the Board. The Board voted Dr. Terri Mozingo, Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. Stephen Wilkins, Chief Human Resources Officer, as the superintendent’s designees.

The High School Project

The Board heard about the dynamic all-star panel of education experts who gathered at T.C. Williams to give expert advice on our future programming. This was part of the redesign of our high school programming. You can view a video of the event and hear from the panelists in two videos in this week’s ACPS Express post on it.

Douglas MacArthur Modernization Update

Three concepts for the new building have now been posted on the ACPS website and the architects are in the process of gathering feedback on them. You can view the concepts (PDF) and give feedback on January 15 at the MacArthur Modernization Open House from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. or the Community Meeting at 6 p.m. in the school library. Stay connected to this exciting project.
