ACPS met targets for, exceeded or maintained performance for 93 percent of the Academic Excellence and Educational Equity goals set for the first year of the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan, according to data released on Thursday.

Key Performance Indicators showed that 69 of the 74 targets were met, showed improvement or were consistent with the performance of the previous year for Goal 1: Academic Excellence and Educational Equity. The results of all five years will be charted on an ACPS 2020 Dashboard.

The results indicate that ACPS is on track in its goal of fulfilling its mission of seeing every student succeed, while simultaneously educating lifelong learners and inspiring civic responsibility.

All targets were met in the areas of educational equity, teacher resources and supports, cultural competence and an atmosphere of respect, ethics and behaviors for success, early childhood education, adult education and services for adult English language learners.

“These results are very encouraging. It is important to be able to demonstrate that the hard work of the staff is paying off in terms of the focus on becoming a high-performing school division. We have a dedicated group of staff, students and parent community who are committed to seeing the goals of the ACPS 2020 plan are met every day with every student in every school,” said Superintendent Alvin L. Crawley.

The next steps for sustaining growth include implementing project plans in core academic areas in all grade levels, creating exemplar lessons and differentiating student supports. There is also a focus on improving early childhood education, fidelity of curriculum implementation, alternative education, suspension, graduation and dropout rates, Standards of Learning assessment performance and professional development in order to continue to push growth.

The ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan, launched in September 2015, is based around the mission statement: Every Student Succeeds. This mission statement underlines everything for which ACPS is striving to accomplish within the next five years. It is a roadmap for becoming a high-performing school division, through focusing on each individual student and their individual needs. It also embraces equity through ensuring that every child, no matter what their background or where they are from, has access to a great education.

ACPS 2020 is made up of six goals: Academic Excellence and Educational Equity, Family and Community Engagement, An Exemplary Staff, Facilities and the Learning Environment, Health and Wellness, Effective and Efficient Operations.

The results achieved in year one of the other five goals will be presented to the School Board over the next two months.
