ACPS Sees Success in Meeting Targets for First Year of ACPS 2020

ACPS met, improved upon or remained consistent across 93 percent of all key performance indicators in the first year of reporting of the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan and its six goal areas.

This is a significant achievement. It takes genuine commitment to ensure not just individual goals are met but that all work in ACPS continues to be aligned with this roadmap of success. We are seeing improvements across all areas of the school division and are confident that the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan is the key to ensuring we become a high-performing school division where all students succeed,” said Superintendent Alvin L. Crawley.

All targets set under Goal 6: Effective and Efficient Operations were met in the first year of the Strategic Plan. Goal 6 focuses on ensuring that ACPS is efficient, effective and transparent in its business operations. Goal 6 acts as a foundation for all other goal areas by focusing on the underlying practices and procedures needed to run a high-performing school division. It covers;

  • fiscal policies and practices, including providing the community with a reliable, accurate and complete view of the financial performance of the educational system at all levels
  • ensuring cycles of continuous improvement at every level of the school division, including employing evidence-based decision-making in its consideration of process improvement, policy-making, and budgeting and accountability
  • focusing resources on student learning by utilizing a comprehensive performance management system that ensures efficient, cost-effective business operations

ACPS persistently pursues transparency around the reporting of financial data, in accordance with Goal 6 of ACPS 2020. This year, ACPS received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget reporting form the Government Finance Officers Association. The award reflects a commitment by ACPS staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, ACPS had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

The Strategic Plan is clear and detailed and the goals and schools are measured against the Strategic Plan. This was a major strength regarding this budget document,” said a reviewer from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Data for each goal area for the first year of ACPS 2020 can be viewed on the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan Progress Report on the ACPS website.
