Jazz Band Takes Top Prize

On Friday, May 13, Alexandria City High School’s jazz band competed in the Chantilly Jazz Festival (one of the oldest and most prestigious in the DMV region). Jazz Band “A” won first place and Jazz Combo won 2nd place.

Jazz Band “A” has been selected to perform at the Virginia Music Educator’s Association annual conference Nov 17 -19 in Richmond, Virginia. Associate Band Director Doug Rogers says, “This is a very big deal.”

The following student musicians collectively helped earn this honor:

Kaifi Abdullah, Silas Adkins-Hooke, James Ambrose, Amanda Araujo, Steven Bectel, Henry Bingman, Clifton Conrad, Jason Dresen, Neil Angelo Gascon, Ethan Gotsch, Elizabeth Lo, DeAngelo Palucho, Violet Planey, Brendan Putnam, Elijah Speckart, Tucker Stone, Zacharia Stover, Jamison Taylor Jr, and Lucas Zahlan.

Conrad, Lo, Palucho, and Stone are all members of the All-Virginia Jazz Ensemble.
