For the first time since 2019, ACHS will host a prom on Saturday, May 7. After two years of prom being canceled due to COVID-19, students are eager to attend the spring event.

In early February, students had the opportunity to vote on this year’s prom theme. The two options were secret garden and old Hollywood. Leadership class members Ana Duss headed the committee for secret garden, and Effriata Berasu headed old Hollywood.

Senior Lyra Jaffe, who supported the old Hollywood theme, said, “I love the old Hollywood theme because it allows everyone to feel like they’re glamorous or famous for a night.”

Senior Kate Schaefer also voted for the old Hollywood theme, saying, “I wanted old Hollywood because it seemed more fun and also because I’m allergic to flowers.”

Senior Gigi Krupicka, who voted for the secret garden theme, said, “It feels really simple and beautiful at the same time. It gives everyone the freedom to wear whatever they want […], any color or style looks pretty in a garden.”

Senior Carrie Sample, who also liked secret garden, said, “It feels very trendy, and while it likely won’t stay that way, looking back at photos of it will be more fun because of that.”

Voting closed in early February, and the theme was announced on February 7. In a vote of 59.5 percent to 40.5 percent, secret garden won.

Krupicka also said, “I’m really excited to see what the venue looks like once it’s decorated like a secret garden!”

Those who plan to go should buy their ticket as soon as they come on sale, as tickets are limited.
