April Fools

The Fall of Avada Kedavra

Kedavra’s Last Wishes for her Students

Mathilda Tataw

On April 1, 2020, T.C. Williams announced that beloved teacher Avada Kedavra has passed away from eating 9 ¾ of the Unforgettable Curse Cuisine at the Voldemort Luncheon Cafe in Maryland. After nearly 23 full years of working at T.C., Kedavra taught as both a drama and biology teacher, earning her degree at Ilvermorny University in Massachusetts.

“She was loud and quirky. You would always find her doing some random or out of this world activity. So I am not surprised she left a list of wishes for her students even though she was perfectly healthy,” said James Patronum, Kedavras first and only son.

“She wanted her students to be able to experience life in a new aspect and achieve things that many people would not think about,” said Patronum. “She wrote that she left the wishes for the students so they can grow and become independent. She didn’t want to be remembered as only a mother, but as a guide to help students succeed, beyond her work as a teacher. That is the focus of her wishes.”

Kedavra left four wishes for her students, each one with a deep personal meaning and memory to her that she hoped would open her students’ eyes to the child inside them as they grew older.

Senior Luna Malfoy explains that although Kedavra is one of her least favorite teachers, she will fulfill the seven wishes her drama teacher set for them. “She was always doing random challenges with her students that always challenged us mentally and physically,” said Malfoy.

“Each of the wishes has a purpose,” said Patronum. ¨They are simple and easy cheats to make life easier or to just enjoy life.”

  • Place all your notes inside scented bath salts for Eternal Knowledge.

The first wish from Kedavra promises eternal knowledge. On the full moon of every month, at 7 p.m., collect all of your notes. Place them inside your bathtub with the notes facing down and pour bath salts of your favorite scent. Fill the bathtub with the salt and let it aromatize for seven hours.

“My mom would always say knowledge passes through the nose,” said Patronum, who further explains that over the seven-hour period, the knowledge on the paper will sink and integrate with the bath salts. “She would say the human’s sense of smell or touch is unforgettable, so by smelling or sitting in the salts you are naturally taking in the information, said Patronum.

  • Take or Kidnap three newborn puppies and keep them for three years to Find self peace and true love.

“Kedavra was a big fan of true love and that self peace was only a few steps away,” said English teacher Diane Bellatrix.

On the first Saturday of the month, walk to the nearest pet or animal shelter. Meet each puppy three times. Then get down on one knee and place your hand out with doggie treats. Adopt the three puppies that come last to receive the treat. Once you adopt the puppies, name them after something you hate. Then finally love and care for them for the next three years to build and fall in love with the puppies.

“I remember Ms. Kedavra would always say that there are some connections you have to make yourself and that true love is just one puppy away. But I never thought she met literally,” says Malfoy, with her three new puppies laying on her lap.

“My mom adopted our dogs Heavy Metal, Grammar, and Hypocrites before I was born. She said they gave her peace and led them to my father and eventually me,” says Patronum.

  • Come out of your shell and let your voice shine.

The third wish from Kedavra is just how it sounds: coming out of your shell and comfort zone. Complete with wearing funky colors and going to scenic places, the third wish is a test of courage and fashion sense.

Kedavra wrote that students should wear a lime green hat, bright red pants, a royal blue short sleeve shirt, and black socks. Then students must cover their face and arms with bronze, gold, and silver paint. Finally, you’re supposed to go to the nearest art gallery, with a flag of your favorite sports team. Go inside the art gallery, wave the flag, and sing your favorite song. ¨My mom would always wear some out-of-this-world outfit, like shoes shaped like airplanes. A wacky outfit seemed right up her alley,” says Patronum.

“I’m pretty sure I’ll never be allowed back to that place,” said Malfoy, washing the face paint off her body.

Junior Harry Longbottom states ¨It was fun. I knew Kedarvas’ wishes would be crazy. But this one is terrifying. I can forget about being scared of class presentations — this is so much worse!¨

  • Beat the Unforgettable Curse Cuisine.

The last and final wish from Kedavra is to eat her final meal. This ten-course meal consists of a variety of foods from all around the world, with cuisines from countries like Sweden, Cameroun, Brazil, Japan, and more. The Unforgettable Curse Cuisine is the Voldemort Luncheon Cafe’s most expensive dish and normally feeds about 9-14 people. “When I read this one, my heart stopped a bit,” said Patronum, “But I knew that it’s what my mom wanted. She always wanted someone or a group to finish the cuisine, since almost all people take leftovers,” says Patronum.

“Tomorrow at noon, students and teachers will join together at the Voldemort Luncheon to eat the Unforgettable Curse Cuisine that will be divided amongst staff and students,” said Bellatrix.

Kedavra was a kind and loving woman, who always wanted to push those around her out of their personal bubble and experience something new. She will always be remembered at T.C-.She always wanted what is best for her students in both lives and after death. Her funeral will be held at Deathly Hallows at 3 p.m. on April 21st.
