Are We Delivering on Our Promise to Serve All Students? Let Us Know Your Thoughts

As a school division committed to providing every student with a high-quality education, a welcoming learning environment and the skills and resources needed to succeed today and after graduation, we need to be able to make sure we are delivering on our promise.

ACPS 2020 graphicWhen we adopted our five-year strategic plan, ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan: Every Student Succeeds, four years ago, we laid out ambitious goals for Alexandria City Public Schools. Now we need your input to tell us how we are progressing and providing your children with the best possible education.

Your feedback is particularly important as this spring, ACPS will begin to look at its priorities for the next five years. No doubt there will be much discussion during this process about our educational priorities and what we want to see accomplished between 2020 and 2025 as a community.

But no matter what our priorities end up being, we are certain of one thing: students are the heart of everything we do. They are our number one priority. It is students we are educating, nurturing, growing into responsible young adults and inspiring to become global citizens and the future generation of world leaders. They are the reason we exist and they are the purpose of our work.

Our mission in ACPS is to see Every Student Succeed. And there is no doubt that we have made progress in this mission. But it is equally clear that there is much more progress that is needed, and that it will take the efforts of an entire community pulling together to afford all students a high quality education in ACPS.

Measuring our progress towards realizing our strategic goals begins with listening to our community.

That’s why we are asking all parents, guardians and community members to take our annual survey.

This ACPS 2020 Survey is your chance to share your opinions and provide feedback about several important issues in our division.

This survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. All your answers are strictly confidential. Reports will not identify individuals, and only overall data will be shared.

The results of the survey will be used to guide our work moving forward and we will share them with you in the summer or early fall.

The survey focuses on the six main areas in the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan that was adopted in June 2015: academic excellence, family and community engagement, high-quality staff, facilities and learning environment, health and wellness, and effective and efficient operations.

The results of the survey will help us gauge our progress towards realizing our strategic goals and identify our strengths and opportunities for improvement.

ACPS families with a current email address in our system received an invitation with a survey link last evening. Parents, guardians and community members can also take the survey online now in English, Spanish and Arabic. Paper copies are available in these languages, along with Amharic, at schools, recreation centers, libraries and City Hall. To participate in the survey in another language, please call 703-619-8062.

The survey can be taken from any internet-connected computer, tablet or smartphone now through May 10.

ACPS has partnered with an independent research and communications firm to administer the survey and compile the results. Participants are anonymous to ACPS and responses are strictly confidential.

Thank you for participating and helping us become the best we have ever been. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
