Alexander Duncan
- ACPS

ACPS is pleased to welcome Alexander Duncan III as the next campus administrator for the Minnie Howard campus of Alexandria City High School. Duncan has worked in education since 2003 and has served in our school division since 2007, at both the middle and high school levels. He has served as a teacher, departmental leader, dean of students, assistant principal, and summer school principal, with his most recent role as Assistant Principal at ACHS. He even taught at Minnie Howard from 2015-2018. No matter the role Duncan has served, he has maintained one overarching principle: “Education is the most powerful weapon [we…] can use to change the world” (Nelson Mandela).

Duncan is committed to helping all students reach their fullest potential, and he has worked as a dean of students to provide equitable opportunities for students and, as an assistant principal, to develop initiatives to enhance instructional best practices. He believes in an approach of collaboration and communication with staff, students, families and community agencies to support students’ academic achievement as well as their social/emotional development.

Duncan maintains instructional excellence as a guiding principle of his school-based leadership as well as student support. He holds several degrees in English literature and educational leadership and has earned endorsements in K-12 instruction and a host of other professional learning achievements. Duncan maintains student support, highly effective instruction, and community collaboration as quintessential elements in leading any department or school. In all of his roles, Duncan has maintained an unwavering commitment to students and their potential to achieve. We are excited to have him serve as the new campus administrator at Minnie Howard.
