ACPS is conducting a division-wide evaluation of family engagement to better understand the needs, resources and services needed to engage all families throughout ACPS and the barriers that might limit engagement for some.

The evaluation, which is being conducted in partnership with ICF International, includes a 10 to 15-minute anonymous survey of staff.

We would particularly like to hear from staff who are highly engaged with our families. Questions in the survey are most relevant to school-based administrators, licensed, paraprofessional, front office and central office staff and student support team members.

The survey will include questions related to:

  • School-family relationships, including barriers to engagement
  • Communication
  • School environment
  • Opportunities for engagement
  • Decision-making

There is also an open-ended question for comments related to family engagement.

Staff will receive an email invitation to participate in this important survey, including instructions and a link to access the survey. Those who work in more than one location can take the survey once for each location. Although staff will be asked to identify the school(s)/building(s) where they work, the survey results are anonymous.

The overall evaluation will include observations and parent and staff surveys, focus groups and interviews that will take place through May 2019. Findings from the evaluation will be used to inform decisions related to how ACPS engages with families and the relevant policies.

Results from the staff survey, along with results from all other aspects of the evaluation, will be made available in the final report expected in fall 2019. The results will be presented at summary levels to ensure individual anonymity.

The survey is scheduled to close Friday, March 29, 2019.
