ACPS Finding Fit is providing two fun ways to get your health and wellness on as we roll into spring!

Today marks the start of the free barre3 yoga classes being offered at three different ACPS locations over the next four weeks. Pick the day, time and location that work best for you:

  • Mondays
    February 26, March 5, 12 and 19
    3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
    T.C. King Street Campus Dance Studio
  • Wednesdays
    February 28, March 7, 14 and 21
    4 – 5 p.m.
    Central Office, Third Floor
  • Thursdays
    March 1, 8, 15 and 22
    3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
    John Adams Elementary School Art Room

Just show up in comfortable fitness clothing with a water bottle and a yoga mat. Don’t own a yoga mat? No worries (or excuses!)—extra mats will be available.

Spring Fitness Challenge

Have we got a fun and fabulous way for you to kick-off spring this year! March 1 marks the start of the annual Spring Fitness Challenge: Making the Grade on Mental Wellness.

During the first three weeks of March, schools and floors at Central Office will engage in a little friendly competition to see who adopts the healthiest habits for improving health and wellness.

Here’s how it works:

Set a goal to engage in at least three of the following wellness practices each day and give your self a grade based on how many you complete.

  • Create and implement a bedtime ritual
  • Spend 10 minutes stretching your muscles
  • Download a meditation app—and use it!
  • Spend 30 minutes engaging in a hobby
  • Practice deep-breathing exercises
  • Perform 30 minutes of physical activity
  • Spend at least 15 consecutive and purposeful minutes outdoors
  • Go screen-free from 6 p.m. onward
  • Volunteer for a cause in your community or school
  • Spend 10 minutes decluttering a favorite space

Track your progress on this handy calendar, which should be turned in to your wellness champion by April 6.

And, let’s not forget the prizes!

In true school fashion, prizes will be awarded for schools/locations with both the highest combined GPA and the greatest percentage of participation. Participants who maintain a “B” average or better will be entered into a raffle for various prizes. See the grading rubric on the second page of the calendar for details.

Being fit is more fun with a friend! So, team up with a buddy and champion your department to take the challenge so that your team can be sure to make the grade.
