T.C. Student Photography on Exhibit Through June 19

T.C. Williams High School students are showing off their photography abilities at St Elmo’s Coffee Pub now until the third week of June.

The 2017 Student Photography Showcase is on exhibit through Monday, June 19 at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, 2300 Mount Vernon Avenue. A reception will take place on Tuesday, June 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Elmo’s.

The thirty images in the exhibit were produced by seventeen students in the photography track of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at T.C.

The photography students learn technical photography skills, such as how to effectively use a DSLR camera, manipulate light, use a lightroom, and use software programs such as Photoshop and InDesign. Because the program is part of CTE, they also learn skills that will help them to be successful in the workplace, such as creative, out-of-the-box thinking and decision-making skills—all vital for workplace readiness.

Some of the photographs in the show were the result of an assignment, but much of it was done independently. The quality of the images is a testament to the students’ understanding of visual literacy and to their professional ability.

The photographs are for sale and all proceeds from the sale of photographs will go to the students.

We are really grateful for the support of Sherri Chapman and the entire Career and Technical Education program at T.C., Carl T. Perkins federal funding, the City of Alexandria and the ACPS School Board for their support of CTE and of the arts. And, many thanks to St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub for hosting the show,” said Commercial Photography and Journalism 2 Instructor Scotty (Taki) Sidley.
