NOVA Rapper Shaboozey Releases Debut Album

Shaboozey, or Collins Chibueze, who was born in Northern Virginia and attended Garfield High School has just released his debut album Lady Wrangler. Shaboozey has released several songs that have gained local popularity on Soundcloud and Apple Music including Jeff Gordon, Starfoxx, and Winning Streak. Lady Wrangler released on October 5, with 11 tracks totalling forty minutes, this was the first real attempt Shaboozey has made making a large production album.

On September 9, Shaboozey performed at Day N Night Festival in Anaheim, California where he did something most artists would not regularly do. He played songs from Lady Wrangler a year prior to its release, an album that no one had heard anything about, he did this, he said, to give the fans an experience of hearing something new that represented his best work to date regardless of prior attention and popularity of the songs. The energy of the crowd spoke for themselves as it seemed to be successful and full of love for the Nova rapper. Lady Wrangler could be the recent continuation of a new genre of music, successfully infusing rock with rap through the exciting guitar solos mixed in his beats, under his deep melodic vocals in which it fits perfectly with.

The first track of the album, “Dream”, is not a typical intro–slow and short, like an interlude–but a full length song to kick off the album. The record is indeed without any short fillers or interludes, which can be hard to come by nowadays. Every song on this album is a hit, or at least hit-worthy. Shaboozey is still not a very popular artist, and the songs on this album will not get the attention they would if a more popular artist like, say, Drake released them.

The bulk of the album–songs two through five which, in my opinion, are the best songs on the album–deal with Shaboozey’s steady rise to fame and the people he’s including with him, and the people he’s not including. On the fifth track, “Golden Child,” he says “I remember when I couldn’t keep my family fed, now my mama don’t fly coach no more, it’s only private jets”. Shaboozey has proven he knows what the people want to hear, and we can only look forward to the future projects to follow.
