Update for Families on the Implementation of New School Boundaries

In January 2017, the School Board approved the implementation of new elementary school boundaries generated through a year-long redistricting process. The new school boundaries will come into effect September 2018. ACPS is in the process of implementing the redistricting plan and will be contacting those families directly impacted by the process in the next couple of weeks.

If you are unsure whether your zoned school changed as a result of the redistricting process, you can check the interactive map of new school boundaries: interactive map of the new school boundaries.

Please be aware that there are some exemptions to this redistricting requirement. Review the Exemptions and Transportation chart for additional information. The full details of redistricting exemptions are outlined in Policy JCE and Regulation JCE-R.

Families whose children qualify for an exemption will be asked to indicate their intent to stay at their current school on a Notice of Intent form. This form will be sent to families who will be impacted by the redistricting process. Notice of Intent forms should be returned to the registrar at your current school before January 15, 2018.

In the coming months and throughout this school year, various transition activities, including open houses, meet the principal night and student buddy pairings, will take place. We will send out details of these transition activities in early spring. While we know changing schools can be difficult, please know that all of our elementary principals are excited and look forward to welcoming you and your family to their school communities.
