T.C. Williams Seniors Win Northern Virginia Regionals of the “We the People” Competition

Congratulations to the T.C. Williams seniors in RaAlim Shabazz’s Honors 12 Virginia and U.S. Government – We the People class, who won the Northern Virginia Regional “We the People” competition. The team captured the District Championship in 2013 and 2014 and has now been crowned the 2016 Champion for Northern Virginia.

The award is a true honor that recognizes superior understanding of the constitution and constitutional issues across six units of study ranging from the Historical and Philosophical Foundations of United States Constitutional Government to pondering the challenges that might face American constitutional democracy in the 21st century. It is designed to promote civic competence and responsibility among our nations students,” said Shabazz.

The win earns the team an automatic bid to the State Finals that will be held in Charlottesville, Virginia in January.

We entered for the first time in 2013 and won our very first year. Seeing the impact that that had on students and that they were so incredibly serious about  understanding case law, about critical thinking, about inferencing, about being able to discern the difference between fact versus opinion, it motivated them to do very great things as they graduated and moved on to college. I am so proud of the students,” said Shabazz.
