Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is preparing for our Summer Learning 2022 program and will communicate with families about enrollment later this spring. ACPS Summer Learning for the current academic year will consist of four weeks of in-person learning from June 27 to July 21, 2022. Learning will take place every Monday to Thursday, except for Monday, July 4, 2022. Summer learning hours will be:

  • Elementary School (current PreK, K-4): 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Middle School (current grades 5-8): 8:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • High School (current grades 9-12): 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

There will be two weeks of virtual learning for invited students in kindergarten through fourth grade, July 25 through August 4. Virtual learning hours will be 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday through Thursday each week.

PreK students will focus on Exploring Our Five Senses. Current elementary students in grades K-4 will focus on STEAM learning using the Camp Invention curriculum. Students will gain confidence and persistence, build their STEM skills and improve their reading skills through collaborative and creative problem-solving activities.

Current students in grades 5-8 will have a theme this year of Career Exploration Camp using hands-on, project-based Engineering is Everywhere modules. Students will be immersed in the following career-oriented projects: Here Comes the Sun: Engineering Insulated Homes; Outbreak Alert: Engineering a Pandemic Response; Shake Things Up: Engineering Earthquake Resistant Buildings; and Sky’s the Limit: Engineering Flying Technologies.

ACPS continues to prioritize specific student groups for in-person instruction (PreK-8 students who have been identified as having social, emotional, academic learning (SEAL) needs, English Learners, students with disabilities and high school students in credit recovery programs). We are excited about our summer learning programs; the number of students we can serve in summer learning will be determined by our staffing capacity.
