Volunteer Crossing Guards Needed!

A crossing guard holds up her hand to stop traffic in the center of a crosswalk early in the morning.
- ACPS

Volunteer crossing guards are a vital part of the ACPS family, and we are currently in need of a few good community members willing to volunteer their time to serve several schools at several locations. The volunteers will help control traffic at designated crosswalks to allow families and students to cross streets safely to and from school.

Volunteers must be able to work well with others, with little supervision. They must be highly dependable. They must be willing and able to keep track of their schedule and work with the placement/assignment officer. Equipment and training will be provided by the Alexandria Police Department.

Volunteers will select a school near where they live and a backup location for their assignments.

School locations are: Charles Barrett, Cora Kelly, Douglas MacArthur, George Mason, James K. Polk, Jefferson-Houston, John Adams, Lyles-Crouch, Naomi L. Brooks, Mount Vernon, Patrick Henry, Samuel W. Tucker, William Ramsay and Ferdinand T. Day.

Hours are:

  • Morning: 7:15-8:10 a.m.
  • Afternoon: 2:25-3:05 p.m.
