Superintendent Hires Acting CFO into Permanent Role

Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. has appointed Dominic B. Turner as Chief Financial Officer for Alexandria City Public Schools.

Turner has been serving as Acting Chief Financial Officer for the past nine months and steered ACPS through this year’s budget process and adoption with the School Board and the City of Alexandria. In his time as Acting Chief Financial Officer he has made establishing relationships with the City a key priority to ensure the processes, timeline and budget expectations for both entities are aligned. Turner has also worked to ensure transparency in the budget process and a continued focus on ensuring efficiency.  

“We are delighted to have Mr. Turner add his wealth of knowledge and experience on our finance team. The role of Chief Financial Officer is important to maintain transparency, and efficient and effective operations,” Dr. Hutchings said.

Prior to joining ACPS, Turner had several roles in government budget formulation, implementation and execution. He has a proven record of increasing resource efficiency and seamlessly implementing new initiatives.

“I am really pleased to assume this role and look forward to the opportunity to put my experience and knowledge to work on behalf of ACPS. Collaboration with the City as well as prioritizing students is going to be essential to helping ACPS achieve its mission of student success,” said Turner whose grandfather was a teacher at Parker-Gray High School and George Washington High School and a driving instructor at T.C. Williams High School.

Prior to joining ACPS, Turner held budget analyst and management positions in Prince George’s County, Maryland, most recently as a Capital Improvement Program Budget Manager and Procurement Unit Supervisor for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. There, Turner was responsible for managing a Capital Improvement Program budget that exceeded $750 million.

Turner holds a Master of Business Administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland College Park and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary.

He will start in his new role immediately.
