Spring is finally here and oh boy, are we ready!

This spring, ACPS is shining a spotlight on mental health and wellness. If you participated in the ACPS Finding Fit Spring Challenge, you know that it was all about engaging in practices that support mental health and wellness.

The results of the challenge, Making the Grade on Mental Wellness, are in. Here’s how we stacked up:

  • Twelve sites participated in the challenge with the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center (NVJDC) coming out on top. NVJDC is our first place winner for the second consecutive year with the highest percentage of employees participating at 60 percent.
  • Kudos to John Adams Elementary School for the highest GPA at 3.46.
  • High marks go to the 99 employees who finished with at least a 3.0 GPA. They were entered into a raffle where 25 of the luckiest of them will receive fun fitness prizes like a Finding Fit t-shirt, a yoga mat, water bottle or a Fitbit. Winners will be notified this week.

In fact, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so ACPS has been asking students and staff what good mental health means to them. See what people are saying on our Facebook page and Twitter, and share their wisdom with others by liking and sharing our posts.

ACPS is also hosting a variety of activities to raise awareness, reduce stigma and promote positive mental health for our students and staff. One way we can show support for mental health awareness is by wearing a green ribbon during the month. Learn more about mental health supports available to support our students through their school support team, which includes a school social worker, school psychologist, school nurse and school counselor.

And, since balance in life is always good, we have a challenge for your body as well!

Mark your calendar and save the date for the ACPS Annual Spring Kickball Tournament on Thursday, June 7 at 3:45 p.m. The games will take place at the Lenny Harris Memorial Fields at Braddock Park adjacent to George Washington Middle School.

Join us for great food, fun and some fancy footwork. All ACPS employees and their families are welcome. Get tournament details.
