ACPS offers hundreds of courses for staff. Each week ACPS Insider will highlight a few of the most relevant courses.

To view all professional development offerings for October or to sign up for courses, please log in to the PLMS website.

This week’s highlighted courses:

Medication Administration Training (Including Epinephrine)
This course will fulfill the state mandated requirement for the training of school personnel to be able to administer medication to students in the absence of the school nurse. Every school should ensure that at least two staff members complete this training annually. #14035

Teaching Across Cultures
This 3-part workshop series will focus on many of the experiences of students in ACPS classrooms. More than 4 million  people from Central America reside in the United States today, yet Central American history and literature are missing from the school curriculum.

The sessions will help fill that gap providing participants with the knowledge and skills required for using culturally responsive teaching that meets the needs of this student group. During sessions participants will:

  • be introduced to levels of integration of multicultural content
  • become familiar with interactive strategies that can be used in K-12 classrooms
  • explore the contemporary socio-economic issues in Central America
  • learn about important historical and current Central American figures and authors or poetry and prose
  • review culturally inclusive lesson plans that can be used in K-12 classrooms

Staff must register in PLMS and attend all three sections in order to receive a complimentary copy of the book titled “Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K-12, Anti-Racist, Multicultural Education and Staff Development” by Enid Lee. #14530

Support Staff Evaluation Training (Open Session)
During this session, support staff will learn about the new Support Staff Evaluation System #14476
