As partĀ of our commitment to sustainable environmental practices, ACPS has expanded efforts to implement energy efficiency initiatives designed to have a positive impact on our environment. These initiatives are helping to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and, they are also helping to reduce associated costs.

In recent years, this has not only involved large-scale efforts, such as those incorporated into major projects, like the new Jefferson-Houston School and the new Patrick Henry School currently under construction, but also in smaller ways.

Replacing incandescent light bulbs with more energy efficient LED bulbs is one of the smaller changes underway that will have a big impact.

Our goal is to replace 500 incandescent light bulbs with equivalent LED bulbs this year.

Why?

A 60-watt equivalent LED bulb uses 85 percent less energy than an incandescent light bulb, provides better lighting and lasts for years.

The Impact?

Based on the six-year average lifespan of an LED bulb, replacing 500 incandescent light bulbs has an impact equivalent to removing 85.3 passenger vehicles from the road for one year. And, results in a cost savings of $53,550 over six years.

Here is how you can help!

Starting today, you can request new light bulbs to replace existing incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulbs in your desk lamp, auditorium, theater, restrooms, exit signs, etc.

New bulbs are available for use in all ACPS facilities. Simply submit your request online. Within two weeks, you will receive replacement bulbs through the facilities department.
