JV Field Hockey Coach Liz Blount Wins Record 100 Straight Games<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

T.C. Alumni and JV Field Hockey Coach Liz Blount has won a school-record 100 straight games. The 2005 graduate has not lost a game for nine seasons, and her teams have scored over 300 goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The JV team beat Colgan 4-0 on Tuesday, September 24, securing the 100 game streak. Goals were scored by freshman Betty Amron, sophomore Leela Trujillo, and two goals by eighth-grader Olivia Dicarlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the final seconds of the game, players and parents rushed onto the field with balloons and 100 roses to celebrate the historic feat. \u201cIt made me think about all the girls that I have coached and had an impact on, and that is really rewarding,\u201d Blount said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athletic Director James Parker and Assistant Director of Student Activities Berk Stoy presented Blount with a plaque commemorating her achievement and contribution to T.C. athletics.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Blount] is the epitome of what being a Titan is all about, powerful and influential,\u201d said Parker, \u201cShe is passionate \u2026 and shows what hard work and commitment looks like. All of our athletes need to see and learn that if you work as a team, anything is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liz was given 100 roses and a poster signed by past and present players after the game.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Blount played field hockey and soccer for T.C. when she was a student. She continued to play field hockey collegiately at the University of the Pacific, and then transferred to Virginia Wesleyan University, where she received her Bachelor\u2019s degree in Physical Education. She then returned to Alexandria where she is a physical education teacher at Francis C. Hammond Middle School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blount is also the assistant coach for the T.C. girls varsity soccer team. \u201cCoach Liz has a lot of experience in the sports that she coaches, which helps her cater her instruction to grow each skill set that is needed for her teams to succeed,\u201d said senior Lilly Church, who has had Blount for a coach in both field hockey and soccer. Blount tries to \u201creally stress the fundamentals\u201d when she coaches. \u201cIf you can be confident you can be successful,\u201d she said. The soccer team also went undefeated in the regular season last year, and made it to the state finals under Blount\u2019s coaching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
