Resolutions often fail because people rush into them and often take a “what” instead of “why” approach. A study by Richard Wiseman of Bristol England says that out of the 3000 people he surveyed, 88 percent failed at sticking with their resolutions.

If you are looking to fall into the 12 percent who do achieve their goals this New Years, here are some helpful tips below:

First, avoid using loose terms. If you are looking to lose weight hit your goals, let’s say “I want to lose one pound a week for five weeks.” Instead of saying “I want to lose weight fast”. You need to be realistic about the things you can do in a short amount of time.

Also it is often best to not try to quit things cold turkey, meaning drop the habit without easing out of it. This is often very hard to do and often requires multiple tries and has a very low success rate. Although it varies based on the things you are trying to stop doing.

Get out there Titans and try to change your life for the better; you got this!

New Year’s Resolutions are an important part of the New Year.
