On Thursday, April 4 Building Engineer James Harrison became the first recipient of the ACPS Support Staff of the Year Award . The announcement was kept a secret so that he could be surprised in the main office. A small section of the band, cheerleaders, students, and teachers gathered to celebrate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just want to say thank you to everybody. I really enjoy working here with the staff and the kids,\u201d said Harrison. The award was presented to him by Superintendent Dr. Gregory Hutchings Jr. He recognized Harrison’s ability to go above and beyond for staff and students. He told a story about a time that Harrison lifted up a cover so that a student’s keys could be retrieved from where they had fallen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are one of the friendliest faces since I started working here and it has been great to see you every morning,\u201d said one teacher. Many other office members commented that they would have gotten lost in T.C. without Harrison’s help on the first days they were working at the school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the All Night Grad Party, Erg Sprints, and other school events would be impossible without Harrison’s help. Head counselor Melissa Deak, responsible for AP test coordinating, said that Harrison is essential in preparing for the exams. \u201cThank you for taking care of those tests,\u201d said Deak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harrison’s sister, who was present at the ceremony said, \u201cI\u2019m very proud of my brother.\u201d Another staff member said, \u201cMr. Harrison, you are truly a gentle giant. Your smile is infectious \u2026 thank you for all you do.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Harrison came on board with me when we opened the new T.C., so we have been a team,\u201d said Tammy Ignacio, Lead Administrator for Operations and Student Services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last to speak was Principal Peter Balas who said, \u201cThank you, Mr. Harrison, you play such an important role for us, making sure the building is ready for teachers and for students.
