T.C. senior Hero Magnus was recently accepted into the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. According to Niche.com, Berklee College of Music is one of the top five colleges for music in America in 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n

Magnus received a scholarship for a summer program at Berklee two years ago. Magnus said, \u201cIt was an insane experience, I think they had about 1000 students from all around the world and I got a really international perspective on music.\u201d That experience at Berklee helped influence her decision to apply there. \u201cI was very excited and pleased to have gotten into Berklee. It was definitely a top choice,\u201d said Magnus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnus said, \u201cI\u2019ve been singing for as long as I can remember.\u201d However, she began seriously pursuing music her freshman year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Magnus has learned a lot from her time at T.C. \u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been really lucky to go to T.C., which is such a huge and diverse school, and I think that\u2019s definitely fueled my music. If I had gone to a smaller or less diverse school, I wouldn\u2019t have had the variety of experiences that I\u2019ve had here, and that\u2019s what I\u2019m looking for in college.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnus enjoys writing and performing original songs. \u201cMostly I want to write music and I like to sing, but my focus is definitely songwriting,\u201d she said. Magnus has performed at Busboys and Poets, a restaurant in DC, and other venues around the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next month, Magnus is going to perform at Sidewalk, a bar and caf\u00e9 with a live performance venue, in New York City. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be my first big solo gig and I\u2019m really excited about it,\u201d said Magnus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnus is currently working on producing her debut extended play record, or EP. \u201c[It] would be about five or six songs and I have my set list already. I\u2019m working with my drummers and other musicians and I\u2019m going to record it and hopefully produce it before I graduate,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is excited to begin her musical career at a more professional level. \u201cI feel like I\u2019m not cutting off options by pursuing music, I\u2019m opening them up,\u201d Magnus said, \u201cI think that it\u2019s really difficult to pursue music but that\u2019s what I want to do.\u201d \u00a0<\/span>Magnus believes that music is the right choice for her. \u201cThere\u2019s no reason to ever stop pursuing art, you can do it while you\u2019re pursuing another job on your own time. If it\u2019s your calling and if it\u2019s what you feel like you have to do to be happy, you should never give it up,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n
