If so, we need you!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8186 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/NHD-260x130.png\" alt=\"National History Day 2018 Conflict and Compromise in History\" width=\"260\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The National History Day School competitions for Francis Hammond and George Washington Middle Schools are coming up and we are\u00a0seeking\u00a0judges\u00a0to\u00a0assess\u00a0student\u00a0submissions.<\/p>\n<p>Each year\u00a0honors\u00a0social studies students in grades six, seven and eight engage in a long-term research project as individuals or groups on historical topics of interest\u00a0based on the National History Day theme.\u00a0This year&#8217;s theme is, &#8220;Conflict and Compromise in History.&#8221; They work on their projects from the end of September to late-January\/early February.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6294\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6294\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6294\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/237C1763-A86C-4DD1-9F5B-F0B0D971C0B8-260x347.jpg\" alt=\"National History Day - Alexandria Smith in Costume\" width=\"260\" height=\"347\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alexandria Smith as Alice Paul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students present their findings in a variety of presentation formats: exhibit, documentary, paper, performance or website. The winners at each school will be announced by February 21 and the top two winners in each category from each school will advance to the District V Competition. The top two winners from the District V Competition will advance to the state competition.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u00a0Alexandria Smith, a rising seventh-grade <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=6303\">student at George Washington Middle School won the Outstanding Entry for Junior Division<\/a>\u00a0in Virginia at the national level of competition for her individual performance portraying American Woman\u2019s Rights Advocate Alice Paul.<\/p>\n<h3>Judges are needed for the following shifts:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Francis C. Hammond Middle School<\/strong><br \/>\nThursday, February 1<br \/>\n8:45 am. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30\u00a0 to 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>George Washington Middle School<\/strong><br \/>\nMonday, February 12<br \/>\nTuesday, February 13<br \/>\n8:45 am. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30\u00a0 to 3:00 p.m. both days<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in judging please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/k12.us3.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=c264d43033e4f4ca3b673bfc6&amp;id=7433bd6a31&amp;e=0c0642ea2d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">complete this form<\/a> by Friday, January 26.
