{"id":9141,"date":"2018-04-22T20:04:48","date_gmt":"2018-04-23T00:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=9141"},"modified":"2018-04-24T10:52:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T14:52:00","slug":"support-our-schools-through-spring2action-on-april-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=9141","title":{"rendered":"Support Our Schools Through Spring2ACTion on April 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Set a reminder to participate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/\">Spring2ACTion<\/a>,\u00a0a day of online giving created to support nonprofits doing great work in our community, on Wednesday, April 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last year, twenty groups and organizations that support our students and our schools raised nearly $74,000 through Spring2ACTion. Funds are typically used for things like:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">covering expenses such as the annual fourth-grade field trip to Jamestown, cultural events, and teacher appreciation events and activities<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">providing student enrichment opportunities in the arts, STEM, and core academic areas<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">refreshing teacher and student literary resources<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">buying and\/or repairing instruments for band and orchestra programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">This year, more than two dozen such organizations are asking for your help. Please take a minute to learn about them and give what you can to support their efforts.<\/p>\n<h3>Parent-Teacher Associations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/charles-barrett-elementary-school-parent-teacher-association\"><b>Charles Barrett Elementary School PTA<br \/>\n<\/b><\/a>Purchase technology, including new iPads and an iPad charging cart, that will help enrich our children&#8217;s learning experiences in innovative and fun ways.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/cora-kelly-magnet-elementary-school-pta\">Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nRenovate the school&#8217;s kindergarten playground, including incorporating new STEM-themed equipment that integrates fun and learning for Cora Kelly&#8217;s youngest students<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/douglas-macarthur-pta\"><b>Douglas MacArthur PTA<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/george-mason-elementary-pta\">George Mason Elementary PTA<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Support the music programs including the purchase of music concert t-shirts, printing of t-shirts, purchase of a bass stool and the funding of scholarships<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/gw-middleschool-pta\"><b>GW Middle School PTA<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/jefferson-houston-pta\">Jefferson-Houston PTA<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Purchase teacher supplies, support the chorus, band and orchestra programs, enable field trips and related experiences, fund after-school programs, bring performances and assemblies to the school, and grow the learning garden<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/john-adams\"><b>John Adams PTA<\/b><\/a>\n<p class=\"p1\">Improve the sound system at the school, promote educational events such as our spelling bee and science fair and to show our teachers how much we appreciate everything they do<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/maury-elementary-school-pta\"><b>Maury Elementary School PTA<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/mount-vernon-community-pta\">Mount Vernon Community PTA<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Support youth health and wellness through the Mount Vernon Community School Playground Revitalization Project<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/samuel-tucker-elementary-pta\"><b>Samuel Tucker Elementary School PTA<\/b><\/a>\n<p class=\"p1\">Provide\u00a0teacher and principal scholarships, after-school programs and funds school field trips<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/william-ramsay-pta\">William Ramsay Elementary School PTA<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Purchase an electronic marquee sign on the corner of Sanger Avenue and Beauregard Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>George Washington Middle School Affiliates<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/foto-friends-of-the-george-washington-middle-school-orchestra\"><b>Friends of the George Washington Middle School Orchestra<br \/>\n<\/b><\/a>Fund annual field trip for orchestra students to a city where they have an opportunity to play and participate in workshops with organizations like the\u00a0New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/foto-friends-of-the-george-washington-middle-school-orchestra\"><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/gw-middle-school-band-boosters\"><b>GW Middle School Band Boosters<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/gw-middle-school-chorus-boosters\">GW Middle School Chorus Boosters<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Buy sheet music, uniforms, boom microphones and to provide scholarships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>T.C. Williams High School Affiliates<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/friends-of-the-tc-williams-orchestra\">Friends of the T.C. Wiliams Orchestra<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>Fund a new merit-based scholarship to eligible orchestra students, to be awarded for the first time in 2019 in partnership<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\" style=\"font-size: 1.4rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.4rem;\">with the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spring2action.org\/organizations\/t-c-williams-baseball-boosters-inc\">T.C.
