As we say farewell to Superintendent Alvin Crawley this week, we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career.<\/p>\n

\"GMU<\/a>Dr. Crawley is among the high-profile faculty who will join George Mason University\u2019s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). From the fall, Dr. Crawley will be a professor at GMU along with Anne Holton, Virginia\u2019s former Secretary of Education and Spiros Protopsaltis, former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Education.<\/p>\n

CEHD Dean Mark Ginsberg described Dr. Crawley as \u201cone of the most respected African-American school superintendents in the country.\u201d Dr. Crawley will teach graduate courses and mentor students in the CEHD\u2019s Education Leadership Program.<\/p>\n

Dr. Crawley\u2019s career spans 37 years, including time as a teacher, a speech-language pathologist, an administrator, an adjunct faculty member and as our superintendent. His roots run deep in our region and extend far beyond. His tireless dedication to education has impacted families in Prince George\u2019s County, Arlington Public Schools and District of Columbia Public Schools, along with Chicago and Boston Public Schools.<\/p>\n

Dr. Crawley has been honored as one of the top leaders in the region making a difference in education and has received numerous awards and well-deserved recognition for his work.<\/p>\n

In his new role as part of the faculty at George Mason University Dr. Crawley will teach and mentor future educators, some of whom we hope will grow their careers with ACPS.<\/p>\n
