Jodie Peters, Deedra Robinson and Lauren Vitello will be among 600 educator-trainers selected to deliver two- and three-day professional learning sessions to educators from 47 states this summer.

Peters has been the AVID district director/coordinator in ACPS for the past 12 years, and also had previously served as a national staff developer for AVID Center; she helped develop the summer learning curriculum for other AVID district directors. Robinson is the new AVID elective teacher at Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School. She represents ACPS as a staff developer and will continue to lead as a trainer for the Science Community of Practice, an accomplishment she has held for over 25 years, as one of the first trained teachers in this area.

As a newly-selected staff developer, Vitello, a former science teacher and now fourth-year AVID elective teacher at Francis C. Hammond Middle School, will lead training for the AVID Elective Teacher Community of Practice. In that role, she will help to on-board new AVID elective teachers with the AVID mission and curriculum expectations taught in grades 6-12.

More than 700 ACPS students are slated to enroll in the AVID elective next year, a multi-year course that works to change the college and career trajectory for underserved/under-enrolled students.
