This is a great opportunity for parents and fellow educators to acknowledge and honor the work both of outstanding special educators and of general education teachers whose classroom practices exemplify true inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel that a teacher has gone above and beyond and made a significant difference in the education of a child with a disability, please consider nominating that person for the award.\u00a0<strong>Nominations are\u00a0DUE APRIL 8, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ELIGIBILITY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nominees must be full-time teachers or paraprofessionals (pre-school through grade 12) with Alexandria City Public Schools. Previous winners are not eligible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOMINATION CRITERIA:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nominees must be teachers or paraprofessionals who demonstrate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellence in performance of duties<\/li>\n<li>Achievements with a positive impact on students in special education<\/li>\n<li>Superior understanding of the individual needs and abilities of students<\/li>\n<li>An ability to foster self-esteem and inspire achievement<\/li>\n<li>An ability to involve parents in the special education of their children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>All Nomination Packets MUST Include the Following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Harry-Burke-Awards-Cover-Page.pdf\">Nomination Cover Page<\/a>: Signature of School-Base Administrator is required on Nomination Cover Page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Principal support letter\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At least 2 of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Parent support letters<\/li>\n<li>Student support letters, art\u00a0work, photos or other documents<\/li>\n<li>Colleague\/Peer support letters<\/li>\n<li>Photos, previous awards, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Support letters <strong>may<\/strong> include the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Description of how the teacher or paraprofessional meets the qualities of the nomination<\/li>\n<li>Information providing firsthand observations of how\/why the nominee deserves recognition<\/li>\n<li>Nomination letters for these individuals should be sent to the nominee as recognition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SUBMISSIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Entries should be sent to:<\/p>\n<p>Harry Burke and Anne Lipnick Awards<br \/>\nAttn: Brenda Hopkins<br \/>\nOffice of Specialized Instruction<br \/>\nAlexandria City Public Schools<br \/>\n1340 Braddock Place, Suite 420<br \/>\nAlexandria, VA 22314<br \/>\nTel: 703-619-8023<br \/>\nFax: 703-619-8984<br \/>\nEmail: <a href=\"mailto:bhopkins@acps.k12.va.us\">bhopkins@acps.k12.va.us<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 30th Annual\u00a0Harry\u00a0Burke Outstanding Achievement &amp;\u00a0Anne Lipnick Inclusion for All Awards will be held on May 19, 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you know an ACPS teacher who has gone above and beyond and made a significant difference in the education of a child with a disability?
