{"id":1191,"date":"2016-01-22T13:59:14","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T18:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=1191"},"modified":"2016-01-22T13:59:14","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T18:59:14","slug":"acps-students-join-cast-to-star-in-musical","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/?p=1191","title":{"rendered":"ACPS Students Join Cast to Star in Musical"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has partnered with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Alexandria Department of Parks Recreation and Cultural Activities to produce \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ustreetmusical.wordpress.com\/\"><em>U-Street, The Musical<\/em><\/a><em>\u2019<\/em>, an original musical that focuses on homelessness in America.<\/p>\n<p>The cast of \u2018<em>U-Street, The Musical<\/em>\u2019, which opens January 29 at the Lee Recreation Center in Alexandria, will be packed with ACPS students and alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson-Houston Elementary School student <strong>Makayla Alford<\/strong>, Maury Elementary School students <strong>Janiya Hooks<\/strong> and <strong>Danyele Robinson<\/strong>, George Washington Middle School student <strong>Tayhana Jackson<\/strong> and T.C. Williams High School alumni <strong>Kamen Wilks<\/strong> will be dancers in the ensemble cast of the musical.<\/p>\n<p>Students at T.C. Williams who are part of the leadership development program sponsored by the ACPS Partners in Education Grant will be working backstage during the show.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the show, students including <strong>Zerik Brooks<\/strong>, <strong>Amal Bouh<\/strong>, <strong>Hader Mohammad<\/strong>, <strong>Michael Seegars<\/strong>, <strong>Laura Espinoza<\/strong>, <strong>Quimari Sawyers<\/strong>, <strong>Emy Flores <\/strong>and <strong>Sabra Rose<\/strong>, will be conducting a shoe drive to provide shoes to individuals living in homeless shelters in Alexandria.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018U-Street, The Musical\u2019<\/em> was created as a fundraiser to support programming for ACPS students who live in low-income housing in the city and to bring awareness to a variety of social issues relevant to Alexandria.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for <em>\u2018U-Street, The Musical\u2019<\/em> can be purchased <a href=\"http:\/\/u-streetmusical.brownpapertickets.com\/\">online<\/a>.
