Williams the All-City Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/305137676?title=0&amp;amp;byline=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smashing through team records and setting personal bests, Titan swimmers have claimed the coveted Mayor\u2019s Trophy for T.C. Williams High School for the first time in the history of Alexandria\u2019s All-City Swim Meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A wave of energy was building at the championship meet Tuesday night when Titans took to the starting blocks for the much anticipated championship meet between Bishop Ireton High School, St. Stephen&#8217;s &amp; St. Agnes School and T.C. Williams High School. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was palpable. You could feel the vibes. They really wanted it and they were very focused,\u201d Head Coach John Gullickson said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The night began with some blazing swims with Emil Lasida (backstroke), Ronan Lauinger (breaststroke), Brendan Huber-Wilker (butterfly), and Quinn Hardimon (freestyle) delivering a state-qualifying Men\u2019s 200 Medley A Relay performance of 1:39.51, crushing the school record they set just a week earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the night progressed, a contagious energy overtook the pool deck and fed the T.C. swimmers. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whenever you\u2019re in a meet like that and it\u2019s so close and we know what\u2019s at stake, everyone was stepping up for one another \u2026 people were invested in the team and in each other. And, I think that\u2019s a big difference maker,\u201d Gullickson said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With his teammates shouting their support, T.C. Williams senior Lutfi Lasida muscled through his race, breaking the T.C. Men\u2019s 100 fly record and shaving two seconds off his personal best, delivering a 54.60 at the wall. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When everybody is in it together, you\u2019re going to see a lot of magic. Whether it\u2019s time drops, meet records, new team records, which all happened, and then to do something that they\u2019ve never done before,\u201d Gullickson said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a talented pool of freshmen and sophomores poised to set school records of their own, the team has depth. Upperclassmen see this as the first of many city championships to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior Lydia Greenwood wasn\u2019t surprised at all by the big win. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was totally expecting it. We have so much talent on this team and it\u2019s only going to get better,\u201d Greenwood said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11537 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/swim-0591-800x552.jpg\" alt=\"TC junior and senior swimmers in the pool\" width=\"635\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/swim-0591-800x552.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/swim-0591-145x100.jpg 145w, https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/swim-0591-260x179.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/swim-0591-768x530.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The T.C. men\u2019s swim &amp; dive teams took first place while the women\u2019s swim &amp; dive teams took second. Overall team scores had the Titans claiming the highest team ranking with the Saints and Cardinals finishing second and third, respectively at the meet, which took place in Springfield at the St. James Sports and Active Entertainment Center, due to the fact that Alexandria\u2019s Chinquapin pool is not a competition-sized pool.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I can\u2019t understate how special this is, because they\u2019ve never accomplished this before, and they knew that it was in reach. They\u2019ve had the confidence in the water in their training and they believed in one another.
