As Alexandria, Virginia’s only public high school T.C. Williams High School plays an important part in the lives of Alexandria’s teenagers and the community. Named for a former ACPS superintendent, T.C. welcomes students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to a communal learning environment. The construction of a new building facilitates teaching in a state-of-the-art environment. T.C.’s students gather in an attractive student commons area and participate in a large selection of clubs and extracurricular activities. T.C. offers over 2,000 students an extensive array of Advanced Placement courses including Biology, History, and languages. ACPS pays the exam fees for students taking Advanced Placement exams.
T.C. budgets nearly $12 million for athletics. In recent years the Titans have won district titles in lacrosse and tennis and the 2008 boys state basketball championship. T.C. fields 17 interscholastic teams including football, field hockey, and rowing. T.C. graduates include Olympic rowers Nick Peterson and Linda Miller, Philadelphia Eagles running back Tony Hunt, and Indianapolis Colts linebacker Ratcliff Thomas.
