About Theogony
Theogony is distributed about every four weeks to the entire student body and to subscribers. In addition, copies are available at home sporting events and school-sponsored events held at T.C. Williams.
Mission Theogony’s mission is to inform and entertain the student body, faculty and local community through ethical and responsible journalism. Theogony strives to cover issues, events and topics relevant to T.C. Williams High School and of student interest and will also cover local, national and international topics if appropriate. Theogony will also provide leadership through editorial commentary on relevant issues and events. Theogony is a student-run publication, and all content decisions are determined by the Theogony staff.
Content Content is primarily be based on the ideas and suggestions of the Theogony staff with the overall goal of providing wide-ranging coverage of school issues and events. Suggestions for coverage from individuals or groups outside of the staff are welcome, but the staff reserves the right not to cover issues it deems lacking in newsworthiness or contrary to the mission of Theogony. Theogony seeks to maintain objectivity and to adhere to the policies of the Alexandria City Public Schools on student publications. Theogony deems it important to cover all issues concerning and relevant to students, including those of a controversial nature.
Corrections Theogony strives to maintain thorough and truthful journalistic practices. Theogony will publish corrections or clarifications as necessary.
Editorials Unsigned staff editorials represent the majority opinion of the Theogony staff. Staff editorials are the official opinion of Theogony but do not necessarily represent the views of all staff members or the adviser. Signed editorials or columns represent the opinion of the author and not necessarily the opinion of Theogony or T.C. Williams High School.
Letters to the Editor Theogony welcomes reader opinions. Theogony reserves the right to edit submissions for grammar and content. Theogony will not publish letters that are libelous, profane or obscene. The staff may contact the author and ask that the letter be revised for such content. The decision of whether to publish a letter to the editor is within the jurisdiction of the Editor(s) in Chief, upon seeking input from the staff and adviser. Letters should not be longer than 400 words and must be signed. The editor may decide to withhold an author’s name from publication if the content of the letter deems it necessary. Letters from students, faculty and staff will be given priority over letters from community members outside of T.C. Williams High School. Theogony reserves the right to edit all material published herein in order to meet Alexandria City Public Schools policies or space limitations. Letters should be emailed to theogonyeditors@acps.k12.va.us or delivered to room A235.
Obituaries Student or faculty deaths will be acknowledged respectfully with a picture, name, dates of birth and death, and any other relevant information. Theogony may publish a story if the circumstances surrounding the death are newsworthy and if the surviving family members consent.
Advertising Theogony will not print advertisements that the editors believe to be factually inaccurate, libelous, obscene, disruptive to the educational mission (based on community standards) or offering illegal goods and/or services. The advertisements printed in the Theogony do not necessarily reflect the views of the staff or the T.C. Williams community. The decision to run an advertisement is within the discretion of the Theogony staff.
