SGA Elections
April 23, 2010 by Betelhem Derege
T.C. held its annual SGA elections on March 23 and 24th. Underclassman voted on Blackboard on who they wanted to run their student government. This election is very important because these students that are chosen will have a very big impact on the 2010-2011 school years. The SGA is the voice of the students, they are the ones that can bring up new policies or ideas that the students might think is necessary in their school. The SGA is usually made up of a president, vice president, treasure and secretary. Since this is a high school board, no one is really qualified for a special position so it was decided by the board to only have a president and 3 vice presidents. This means that everybody is going to be involved in decision making and everything else that is required in making school improvenments. The person with the most votes will become president and the three runner ups will be the vice presidents.

The candidates were Douglas Boatwright, Rawan Al Halali, Khadeja Tipu, Pricilla Hue, Cecile Marsh, Darren Foreman, and Emmanuel Sarpong. The speeches were shown in all classes on March 23rd and students watched and listened carefully to everything that the candidates said and promised to do if they won. When asked about the speeches sophomore Isha Bangura said that “they all did well, they seemed focused and honest”, On Friday, March 26th the winner and the three vice presidents were announced. Rawan Al Halali, Douglas Boatwright and Pricilla Hue were voted as the three vice presidents. Khadeja Tipu was the winner and is elected as the president. With the many problems that T.C has had this year, having a strong board that is focused and ready to tackle all the issues that the student body faces is very important. From the small issues like fieldtrips and longer pep rallys to the bigger ones like the amount of fights and ways we can decrease them, the SGA can have a big impact on the student body by creating ways that the administration can listen to the students opinions or ideas.
