Snow Strands T.C. Marketing Classes in Warm Florida

On Thursday February 4th, the marketing classes of T.C. left Reagan National Airport for Orlando, Florida to participate in a program taking place at Disney World. Along with their four chaperones the students attended an annual program at Disney called Youth Education Series (Y.E.S.). Y.E.S. is a behind the scenes look at the how the principles students learn in classrooms are applied to making the magic at Walt Disney World everyday.
The students and their chaperones were scheduled to fly home on Sunday morning but an unexpected issue delayed their flight. While other citizens in Alexandria trudged through the largest snow storm ever officially recorded here the marketing students were stranded in Orlando, Florida soaking up the sun. “We sat there in the sun for the next couple of days and swam in the [hotel] pool while people froze,” said Aisha Cooper, a senior marketing student.
After two extra days spent in Orlando the students were booked on a three o’clock flight back to D.C. but that afternoon the second wave of snow was predicted to hit. Ms. Mary-Ellen McCormick, one of T.C.’s marketing advisors, was well aware of this fact and insisted they be put onto the 9AM flight. After being put onto the nine o’clock flight they received information that the flight they were previously booked on had been canceled due to the blizzard. “Ashley from Air Tran saved us,” said McCormick recalling the situation. Finally the students and chaperones boarded their plane and headed home.
