Man on the Street: Jersey Shore
January 29, 2010 by Mallory Lawhorne
There’s no doubt about it; Jersey Shore is MTV’s newest hit. The show attracted 3.2 million viewers, a series high, and it is doing very well in its key demographics (ages 12-39), even reaching higher ratings than The Real World D.C. These are all fantastic accomplishments for the cable network, but the show has managed to attract a large amount of controversy. The show’s use of “Guido” and “Guidette”, the stereotypical portrayal of Italian Americans, and the now infamous “Snookie punch” are the three major areas, but they have also received criticism for simple things like excessive tanning. The characters and controversy surrounding the show have become a catalyst for water cooler conversation amongst students at T.C., but some students are remain skeptical about the show.
