Meet Your Mighty Titan: Joe Hargrove
November 24, 2009 by Maeve Bracken
Joe Hargrove, T.C.’s starting quarterback going into the season, was cleared to play after breaking his wrist on August 27th during the pre-season, which left him sitting on the bench up until the West Potomac game on October 24th. “It was hard sitting there watching my team and not being able to play,” Hargrove said. During his first game back in action, he set the school record for passing yards and tied the record for passing touchdowns. The following weekend, Hargrove, despite wearing a bulky cast on his right arm, helped the Titans pull through a decisive road victory over South County, after suffering offensively in the first half. Hargrove began his football career as a freshman at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. He played there for two seasons, and then came to T.C. before his junior year. Joe talked to scouts from the University of Pittsburg last year, and hopes to play football there after graduating. “Joe has a tremendous amount of talent. He throws the ball very well and has a great enthusiasm for the game,” Head Coach Dennis Randolph said. Standing at 6’3”, Hargrove is a formidable player on the field. “Joe is a great player, whenever we need a big play he steps up,” junior wide receiver Will Rossi said. This leadership displayed by Hargrove was a key component to the Titans success.
Unfortunately, T.C. suffered a tough loss to Robert E. Lee High School on Saturday, November 7 putting them out of the running for the playoffs. This would have been the first playoff berth for T.C. in over a decade. However, Hargrove and the Titans stayed strong throughout the game. “Joe takes pressure off the key players making everyone on the offense a threat also making him a better player himself,” Senior wide receiver Cortez Taylor said. The T.C. community, as well as the football team, will miss Joe’s contribution to the Titans success on the field.
