{"id":9906,"date":"2021-10-29T13:47:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-29T17:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/?p=9906"},"modified":"2021-10-29T13:47:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T17:47:42","slug":"nominate-a-principal-and-teacher-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/nominate-a-principal-and-teacher-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominate a Principal and Teacher of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/639692997?h=8c8a6f3753\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Washington Post <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/public-relations\/teacher-principal-awards\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year Awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an opportunity to put the spotlight on our talented and dedicated staff at ACPS. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All members of the ACPS community, including families, students, residents and ACPS staff, are invited to submit their nominations by Nov. 22, 2021, using the criteria listed below:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To nominate a teacher, send a written statement of support to their principal before Nov. 22, 2021. Each principal will then choose one nominee from their school to go on to the ACPS finalists round.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To nominate a principal, please send a statement of support to Sherri Tullia of the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:sherri.tullia@acps.k12.va.us\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sherri.tullia@acps.k12.va.us<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before Nov. 22, 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible for <\/span><b>The Washington Post Principal of the Year Award<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, nominees must be full-time principals (in grades pre-kindergarten through 12) in an accredited school in the Washington metropolitan region. Nominees must have a minimum of five years\u2019 experience as a principal, three of which must be in the school or school system in which they are currently serving.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominees must be serving as an administrator for the 2021-22 school year and must meet the following criteria:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manage effectively<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate and encourage creativity and innovation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foster cooperation between the school and the community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain a continuing dialogue with students and parents as well as faculty and staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep abreast of developments in the field of education<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encourage team spirit<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continue to play an active role in the classroom<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain their position as principal throughout the 2021-22 school year<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible for <\/span><b>The Washington Post Teacher of the Year Award<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, nominees must be full-time teachers (in grades pre-kindergarten through 12) in an accredited school i<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n the Washington metropolitan region. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominees must have a minimum of five years of teaching experience, three of which must be in the school or school system in which they are currently serving.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nominees must be serving as a teacher for the 2021-22 school year and must meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instill in students a desire to learn and achieve<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and foster their self-esteem<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Foster cooperative relationships with their colleagues and the community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate outstanding leadership<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain their teaching position throughout the 2021-22 school year<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ACPS Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year will be selected by an ACPS panel in early 2022 and will be announced in April 2022.
