Day 115 \u2014 Safe, Steady, Ready<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are now less than two weeks away from the start of the 2020-21 academic year and ACPS is actively preparing and refining our work for what is sure to be an unforgettable start to the academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a lot of important information to share with you today to ensure a smooth launch of Virtual PLUS+ for all. Please set aside a few minutes and take your time to go through the sections relevant to you. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. We want everyone to feel confident, prepared and able to hit the ground running on Sept. 8.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today we have three more videos to share with you which will give you a sense of the school day for middle and high school students and English Learner students. If you missed last week\u2019s newsletter, see the videos for <\/span>pre-K<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>elementary<\/span><\/a> schedules.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We also have some updated information on resources for families of students with disabilities and, as an additional support, this week our Family and Community Engagement team will kick off a series of free online workshops with a Q&A component to help our families prepare for the school year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next week, families receive in the mail a Virtual PLUS+ Back-to-School Forms packet for them to update contact information, complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal form, and much more. Parents are asked to complete the forms online or on paper by Sept. 15.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow marks an important event in the process to consider the renaming of T.C. Williams High School. I will be presenting at the Alexandria City School Board work session ahead of the community engagement kickoff in the fall. Also during this session, I will be talking about our 2020-21 ACPS Areas of Focus. Join us Tomorrow for Convocation<\/b><\/h2>\n

ACPS is starting the school year with Virtual PLUS+ as our reopening plan. This plan represents the work of hundreds of school and community leaders and will ensure that all students, families, staff, and community members have the support and skills to thrive in this new educational environment. To celebrate this exciting time in our history, Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. is inviting you to join him to launch the school year with a Convocation of all ACPS employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will hold a Convocation on <\/span>Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.<\/b> This Convocation will celebrate our hard work from the spring and summer and allow us to look forward to the coming school year. We will share some opening remarks followed by a message from our Alexandria City Mayor Justin Wilson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Immediately following Convocation, instructional staff will stay on and hear an address and engage in professional development from Technology Services on the upcoming Virtual PLUS+ opening.<\/span><\/p>\n
