I will continue to praise you, my ACPS family, for your hard work and dedication as we continue to educate and support our young people each day during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of you are the epitome of vision, integrity and passion (VIP) and we are so fortunate to be a part of a school division that\u2019s making it happen on behalf of our students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This week, it was great to see our George Washington Middle School teacher, Colleen McEnearney, featured in a Washington Post article chronicling her typical working day. Burgos who is joining the division in the new position of Chief of School and Community Relations on July 2, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mrs. Burgos has been brought in to merge the Office of School, Business and Community Partnerships and the Office of Communications into one department. She brings with her<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over 28 years of government, public relations, non-profit and program administration experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She joins ACPS from Arlington Public Schools where she had held the position of Chief of Staff since 2013. You do not have to be a teacher of one of these grades to take part in this project. Any teacher can submit a video as long as the lesson is aimed at these grade levels. We have tried to make the process simple and many teachers who have tried it have found it fun!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition you get recertification points for EVERY video that is approved for the TV!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the information is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/tv-learning-handbook\">TV Handbook on the ACPS-at-Home website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Teachers of Seniors: \u201cEverybody\u2019s the Graduation Speaker\u201d Video Contest<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all know graduation is likely to look a bit different this year but here\u2019s a fun and memorable way to have our seniors mark the occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia is asking for our Class of 2020 seniors to record and submit an original speech they would like to give at graduation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He will then select speeches to feature on his<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SenatorKaine\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facebook page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaine.senate.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Senate website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during May and June to celebrate the graduates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne of the many groups of Virginians I\u2019ve been thinking about during this challenging time is the graduates of the Class of 2020, many of whom won\u2019t have the graduation experience they\u2019ve been planning for a long time.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI feel a sense of loss about that, so I want to do something fun for them and give all high school seniors the chance to be a graduation speaker. I look forward to hearing the wisdom Virginia\u2019s future leaders have to offer and sharing their inspiration with others. Monday &#8211; Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m staff will be connecting with students and their families.
