Press pause on whatever you are doing and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/2020census.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fill out your census form online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! Schools rely on the census to assess how many students we need to serve and we get allocated federal dollars accordingly. So by filing out your census, you are supporting our public school system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Monday, March 30, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam issued a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/all-releases\/2020\/march\/headline-855702-en.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stay-at-home order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to slow down the spread of COVID-19. This greatly limits the non-essential movements of everyone. If you are an essential staff member who needs to come into our buildings to work, please make sure you read the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginia.gov\/coronavirus\/faq\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FAQ on the Governor\u2019s order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and carry the ACPS letter, linked below, that permits you to travel between work and home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this will <\/span><b><i>not<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> impact ACPS food distribution centers. We are still providing breakfast and lunch to our ACPS students on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We know this is a vital service and that our students need to have access to healthy food to be able to learn. In fact, we know it is so important that today, we are launching <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/schoolclosurefood\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two more pop-up food distribution sites<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the east end of Alexandria.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Please know that our normal ACPS distribution centers and sites will not be open on April 6, 8, and 10 during spring break. The ACPS meal hotline will not be operating during spring break.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>On Friday, April 3<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, families will be able to pick up additional food at all ten ACPS food distribution sites to help them through spring break week.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>On Saturday, April 4<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the ALIVE! Food program will provide families with up to four grocery bags of food from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at John Adams Elementary School and Leonard &#8216;Chick&#8217; Armstrong Recreation Center next to Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology. There will be an additional opportunity (to be determined) during the week of April 6-10 for families to have access to food from the ALIVE! Food program.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The City will be operating grab-and-go meal distribution from T.C. Williams High School (Chinquapin side) on <\/span><b>Wednesday, April 8 and Friday, April 10<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 9 a.m. &#8211; 12 p.m. (note the change in the start time).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Governor also confirmed that the U.S. Department of Education has approved waivers for the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests this year. We know that many of you have questions regarding third and fourth quarter grading. This is not a simple topic, so bear with us \u2014 we will provide our recommendation regarding grading to staff on Thursday, April 2 and discussing with the School Board at our weekly board meeting on Friday, April 3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, don\u2019t miss the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/flipgrid.com\/tcreads\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">virtual book club<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> set up by librarians from T.C. Williams High School and the Minnie Howard Campus. Please familiarize yourself by consulting the respective government\u2019s website. While each jurisdiction\u2019s order is different, each order allows for work-essential travel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ACPS Human Resources Department has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/cms\/lib\/VA01918616\/Centricity\/Domain\/1437\/Essential%20Work%20Letter%203.30.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">issued a letter (PDF)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for essential staff who do need to travel.
