The Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals has selected George Mason Elementary School principal Brian Orrenmaa to be the Potomac Region Co-Director.<\/p>\n
Orrenmaa will represent principals from Alexandria, Falls Church and Arlington.<\/p>\n
The organization aims to promote and maintain high professional standards and leadership among principals and advocate for children by ensuring them access to a high standard of education.<\/p>\n
“As an educational leader I am proud to represent ACPS on the state level. It is a valuable opportunity to learn best practices from around the state and expand professional networking,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Orrenmaa became principal at George Mason in 2014 and has been a member of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals for six years. He has participated in conferences focused on best practices for K-5 education and has become a leading expert in his field.<\/p>\n
He has also taken part in the Teacher Retention Summit hosted by the Office of the Secretary of Education and sponsored by the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.<\/p>\n
The focus of this summit was to collaborate and create policy recommendations in an effort to retain our best teachers.<\/p>\n
Orrenmaa was previously a 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. He also is a Commissioner on the Alexandria Children, Youth, and Family Collaborative Commission.<\/p>\n
As a commissioner he has an opportunity to work collaboratively to influence topics city-wide, such as affordable housing, early child education and equity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
