The Virginia Middle Schools Association of Directors has selected Francis C. Hammond Principal, Pierrette Peters, to be the Region IV Co-Director.<\/p>\n

Peters\u2019 appointment is part of a vision to create an excellent statewide public education system that ensures equity and opportunity for all students.<\/p>\n

As Co-Director, Peters will represent Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington. She will focus on providing leadership that will improve student achievement across multiple school districts.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs principal, I am excited to be an advocate to support and advance middle school education. I\u2019m looking forward to bringing schools together to enhance middle school education for all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She has been a member of the Virginia Middle School Association for five years and has participated in conferences and meetings focused on fostering equitable and supportive learning environments that are responsive to the diversity, needs, and accomplishments of young adolescents.<\/p>\n

Peters was also recently honored<\/a> for her tireless leadership with a Miliken Award by Communities in Schools (CIS). Previous recipients include Dorothy McAuliffe, former First Lady of Virginia.<\/p>\n

The Milliken Award, named for CIS founder Bill Milliken and his wife Jean, recognizes individuals who embody the quality of persistence \u2014 the common denominator in making a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable across our community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
