{"id":7548,"date":"2019-09-08T20:02:50","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T00:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/?p=7548"},"modified":"2019-09-08T21:12:57","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T01:12:57","slug":"recent-staff-health-policy-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/recent-staff-health-policy-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Staff Health Policy Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are more than 400 policies that the School Board must review every five years.\u00a0 To keep up with changes in laws affecting education, however, many of them are revised more frequently. In the last two years, the School Board approved nearly 100 policy changes, and this year more than 100 are scheduled for review. To support equity throughout ACPS, <b>the Board has also begun translating its policies into Spanish, Amharic and Arabic.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/policy\">Find the School Board policies on the ACPS website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff Health Policy Change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Did you know the School Board updated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/cms\/lib\/VA01918616\/Centricity\/Shared\/documents\/school-board-policies\/gbe.pdf\">Policy GBE: Staff Health (PDF)<\/a> in June to include guidelines for staff members who are ill or who require medical attention at work?<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with ACPS\u2019 longstanding illness guidelines for students, if you experience these symptoms you should closely assess your ability to work:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fever of 101 or higher in the last 24 hours without medication;<\/li>\n<li>Undiagnosed rash that is accompanied by fever or itching;<\/li>\n<li>Frequent coughing or difficulty breathing;<\/li>\n<li>Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours;<\/li>\n<li>Sore throat, with fever or swollen glands in the neck;<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms of being sick such as being unusually tired, irritable, or weak; or<\/li>\n<li>Any symptoms related to a mental health crisis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All staff are encouraged to use judgment in remaining at work when ill. If you experience a medical emergency at work that results in a 911 call, you may refuse transport by EMS. However, if you do, you must still seek medical attention or return home via safe transportation. You may not remain at the school.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/cms\/lib\/VA01918616\/Centricity\/Shared\/documents\/school-board-policies\/gbe.pdf\">Read the full policy (PDF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you want to be involved in the policy making process?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This year the School Board will discuss policy revisions at periodic work sessions, and your input is welcomed. Staff can weigh in on policy issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 During the public comment portion of each Board meeting (<a href=\"https:\/\/acpsweb.wufoo.com\/forms\/zjkmhnk0tyb47r\/\">sign up here<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 On the School Board\u2019s new online policy input form (coming soon);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 By joining a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/domain\/1025\">School Board Advisory Committee<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All School Board meetings and work sessions are open to staff, and are held at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acps.k12.va.us\/centraloffice\">ACPS Central Office<\/a> at 1340 Braddock Place.
