{"id":7537,"date":"2019-09-08T20:00:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T00:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/?p=7537"},"modified":"2019-09-08T20:52:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T00:52:30","slug":"can-you-help-find-a-cure-for-lupus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.acpsk12.org\/staff\/can-you-help-find-a-cure-for-lupus\/","title":{"rendered":"Can You Help Find a Cure For Lupus?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center are looking for healthy adults to take part in a vascular study about Lupus, an autoimmune disease.<\/p>\n<p>It is unknown what causes autoimmune diseases, but learning about the immune system in healthy individuals will help researchers understand the factors that may contribute to why some people develop autoimmune disease while others do not, scientists say.<\/p>\n<p>Healthy volunteers will have blood work, a coronary angiogram performed by CT technology (coronary CTA), non-invasive vascular studies, and a full body PET CT.<\/p>\n<p>You must be 18-years-old or older to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Participation may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-3 outpatient visits to the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD<\/li>\n<li>Medical history and physical exam<\/li>\n<li>Blood draws and urine collection<\/li>\n<li>An EKG to measure the electrical activity of your heart<\/li>\n<li>Health screening questionnaire<\/li>\n<li>Non-invasive procedures to assess vascular function (similar to blood pressure measurement)<\/li>\n<li>Imaging studies such as PET\/CT scans as well as a heart CT scan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Come learn more about your health while also helping advance research.
